Nutrition / Wellness Blog

Welcome to our Blog. It is my intention to provide additional opportunity to those interested in achieving a wellness lifestyle through quality nutrition.

In the pursuit of living a better, healthier lifestyle let's first remember the golden rule of eating. Variety is the key! Eating a lot of different foods will provide you with the balance of nutrients you need to help you feel better.

One of the first things that I did to accomplish this was to cut down the number of times I visited the drive thru fast food restaurant. This included reducing my consumption of fried foods and totally eliminating all sodas. By doing this I've added hours to my day simply because I'm not being "slowed down" by the excessive calories ingested into my body with no nutrient benefit whatsoever.

While almost everyone enjoys the taste and feel of food, lets remember that it's the nutrients that fuel our bodies for development, growth and strengthening our immune system for disease prevention. Simply, remove the garbage that isn't healthy and you will already improve your lifestyle greatly. However, if you think you're falling short, despite your best intentions, remember that nutritional supplements can help out.

Dietary/nutritional supplements play an important role in helping to "fill in the gaps" when your daily diet isn't providing you with the necessary fuel. So if you're thinking of taking a supplement, remember do your homework! Not all supplements are the same. Prices and consumption vary tremendously. And most importantly, it's not what you put into your body, but what your body absorbs.

What I have been mostly amazed by all the advertisement and promotion on nutrition is that most people still don't feel educated enough. It seems that consumers are being constantly inundated in the television, radio and print media, however, there's still that distrust as to who do you believe. Actors are paid to do a commercial, famous people are paid to endorse something (even though they really don't use the product), and researchers are always touting their lastest findings.

The fact of the matter is that the best way to judge whether something is nutritionally good for you or not is to see first-hand the benefits it has on others. Listening to someone first hand how they benefitted is perhaps the most convincing way. They're not being paid to share their experiences or results. Be observant and listen! When a person feels very good about something they are openly willing to talk about it. It's just like recommending a new restaurant or new book to read. The person sharing is only excited because they want to allow others to know they can also benefit.

So when you're serious or just curious about nutrition, talk to someone who made a change.

I have heard many stories of health results people have benefitted from when taking nutritional products to improve their quality of life.

Their results didn't happen overnight, but were a result of a consistent daily regiment that promoted the repair and healthy development of the cells. Afterall, the human cell is the nucleus of our existence. Millions of cells die and reproduce themselves within our body everyday. Healthy cells reproduce healthy cells; unhealthy or sick cells reproduce unhealthy cells. As a matter of fact our body undergoes total cellular reproduction every 7 years. By that I mean every single cell in our body will have died and reproduced itself every 7 years. By providing the optimal nourishment for fueling our body's cells you allow for the cells' to establish its proper functionality. This is critical in fighting against germs and disease.

I participate in several weekly conference calls that allow listeners to share their experiences in their health. The most common closing statement each person mentions is that they are all grateful for the opportunity to participate in something that has changed their life. Imagine that, being thankful to someone for having them share stories about their quality imrpovement of one's lifestyle through nutrition.

March is National Nutrition Month. Make a concerted effort to share with everyone the benefits of health and wellness with proper nutrition.

Now that we know that March is National Nutrition Month lets take a look at some simple ways to improve your nutritional intake benefit with these food tips:

1. Focus on Fruits.Eating naturally fresh fruit will provide you with many of the vitamins, minerals & amino acids that every body requires. Eat 2 fruits a day is excellent!

2. Get More Whole Grains> Choose whole-wheat bread instead of flour processed white bread, brown rice instead of white rice, and oatmeal are great sources of grain.

3.More Calcium Rich Foods. To build strong bones drink more lowfat or fat-free milk.

4. Vegetable Variation. Eat more dark green and orange veggies. Brocoli, carrots, sweet potatoes & spinach are all good examples of foods that are packed with vitamins and antioxidants.

5. More Lean on the Protein. Eat more lean, lowfat meat such as turkey, chicken or fish. Limit consumption of beef or pork to 1 meal per week. Stop eating those hamburgers.

6. Change Your Oil. To get the proper amount of oil that every body needs, eat more nuts & fish, and change to using canola or olive oil when cooking foods.

7. Watch the Sweet Tooth. Avoid beverages (soda) and other foods such as desserts and candy that contain high levels of sugar and caloric sweeteners. They're high in calories and contain very little nutrient benefit.
